Root Canals

Root Canals have a bad reputation of being painful, but Pacific Dental Smiles Dentists and Endodontists will be extra gentle. In turn, a root canal with us will feel like any other dental procedure you have experienced. Our doctors are trained to minimize pain and lessen recovery time in order to exceed patient expectations. Our goal is to make you as comfortable as possible.

What is a root canal or endodontic treatment? A root canal is a common dental procedure that attempts to save a damaged tooth.  This procedure is used to treat the pulp of the tooth that may be inflamed, infected, or dead.  The center of a tooth made from a soft substance with nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue is called the pulp of a tooth.  The pulp chamber refers to the hollow area where the pulp is held inside the tooth. When a root canal is treated, the pulp of the tooth is extracted and all the canals along with the pulp chamber are filled.  The filling is then sealed to prevent bacteria from entering the area and causing an infection.
There are many circumstances that call for a root canal procedure.  Pain, abscess, tooth decay, fracture, or trauma are a few examples of common cases when a root canal is necessary.

To make certain that a patient’s tooth needs root canal treatment, our dentists will X-ray the root and may perform a pulp test. A pulp test involves exposing the problematic tooth to a cold stimulus. The dentist will perform this test on several healthy teeth as well in order to compare the reaction results. Once it is determined that root canal treatment will solve the problem affecting the patient’s oral health, the root canal appointment can be made.

A root canal treatment may take one or two visits depending on the patient. To find out more, please contact our dental center today in Anaheim, California.
